Looking at the Jeep Recon, I can’t help but feel like we’re seeing a modern take on the XJ Wagoneer, a vehicle that was designed more for all-weather capability and everyday use than hardcore off-roading.
✔ The Wrangler lineage (CJ/YJ/TJ/JK/JL) has always been seen as a purpose-built off-road vehicle, while the XJ was a step toward a more civilized 4x4, capable, but just as comfortable heading to a weekend house as it was on a trail.
✔ The Renegade was a fun little Jeep, but it lacked that rugged edge, maybe the Recon fills that gap?
✔ Jeep has been moving upscale with the Grand Cherokee, Wagoneer, and Grand Wagoneer, maybe the Recon is the more adventure-ready Jeep that bridges the gap between luxury and off-road?
If Jeep gets the price and capability right, could the Recon become the next great all-around 4x4? What do you all think, is this a real XJ evolution, or just another modern SUV in Jeep clothing?
